ELKO MOTORCYCLE JAMBOREE


Looking for a little altitude to go along with the attitude? Then Elko, Nevada has what you’re looking for with the Annual Elko Motorcycle Jamboree. The EMJ hosts a FREE outdoor concert, open air market, charity events, tours, poker runs, custom and antique bike show, contests and lots of room to roam.

Historic Elko, Nevada located at the base of the beautiful Ruby Mountains (elev. 12,000). The city (pop. 15,000) sits at over 5,000 feet above sea level and is known as the “high desert”. This high desert city is an oasis on the I-80 corridor half-way between Salt Lake City, Utah and Reno, Nevada. The wide open spaces offer plenty of open roads to ride, whether you are looking for open straight-aways or winding mountain roads Elko has what you want.

On Friday and Saturday during the EMJ the downtown corridor becomes a motorcycles only venue as the festival winds-up. With trial riding demos, biker babe and tattoo contests, custom bike show, live entertainment and a FREE outdoor concert. Past performers of the outdoor concert include BTO, 38 Special, Bad Company, Black Hawk Little River Band and Tesla. Elko also offers 24-hour Nevada gaming.

If you need a break from the event activities you can explore one of the near by ghost towns, tour one of the gold mines or cruise one of the scenic byways. Take in a little of the western culture at the western folklife center, home of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering or the J.M. Capriolla’s Museum of Leather Work, both of which are located in the middle of the Jamboree venue. Elko is also host to one of the best museums in the west; The Northeastern Nevada Museum is home to the Wannamaker Wildlife exhibit, a Mastodon from the ice age and one of Bob Chow’s gun collections.

The Elko Motorcycle Jamboree was founded by local enthusiasts, and is a laid-back gathering of all types of bikes and riders. The majority of the 5,000 plus Jamboree attendees are over 40. The EMJ volunteer organizers keep an “all makes and models welcome” philosophy, resulting in a great mix of culture, American, European, Japanese and custom machinery.
