Artwalk in Elko
Shining a Spotlight on Local Artists
Art was meant to be experienced freely and up close, which is why the downtown Elko mural artwalk is the perfect way to spend a lazy afternoon in town. Some treat it like a scavenger hunt with the aim of seeing all 100+ murals in one fell swoop, while others like to tease out the experience over time, finding murals organically as they explore Elko. Whether you take the self-guided tour or are just curious about the murals you see around Elko, you’re in the right spot.
So, what’s the story with Elko’s murals? Like many good things in Nevada, the idea sprang up from a single event. In 2019, more than 40 muralists from around Nevada and the world gathered to paint 51 murals across 30 walls. Since then, vibrant, colorful murals reflective of the area’s Basque and Native American heritage have held up a mirror to Elko’s diverse history, including that of the Old West, railroads, mining and Spanish influence.
